Rhododendron B-44810 • Azalea

Rhododendron Rhododendron / Azalea  •  シャクナゲ / ツツジ  •  石楠花 / 躑躅    shakunage / tsutsuji

Somehow I always feel a bit sorry about plants given numbers, instead of the names…  Reminds me of the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry book ‘The Little Prince’, where the narrator describes life on his tiny home planet: in effect, an asteroid the size of a house (which the narrator believes to be the one known as B-612).

Anyway, as Hiroko tells me about this  plant  growing in  area E, in front of Kasuga lantern, it is ‘Rhododendron B-44810 • Azalea’.  It is  new, so we didn’t know its flower colors until now – they seem whitish/pink, or, if you look closer – white with a pale pink splotch…

So far cannot find much about this azalea on the internet; I’m not sure if the number is its real name, can be an accession number…
