Rhododendron ‘S-1-G’ • Azalea (Wells)

Rhododendron • Rhododendron / Azalea  • シャクナゲ / ツツジ  • 石楠花 / 躑躅 • shakunage / tsutsuji

It grows on the top of the stairs to azumaya, on the left side – a small, pruned round bush with double-carmine pink flowers around mid-May.

Unfortunately, the only references to this type of azalea on the internet is our own plant booklet; other that nothing turned up,  and the American rhododendron Society does not list it, either – wonder if it has another name (i searched by its given number, by ‘wells’ and combination of them) or is it that rare? We have 3 of them in the Garden (areas E, H, T), but only this one listed as double.
